How to bid for a tender

From reading the notice to submitting a complete bid, for businesses new to tenders.

Read the whole notice first

Tender notices list what’s being bought, who can bid, the documents you need and how and when to submit. On JubaJobs, the bid checklist at the top of each tender picks these out for you, but always read the full notice too.

Documents most buyers ask for

  • Business registration certificate and tax clearance.
  • Company profile, with similar contracts you’ve done and references.
  • Technical proposal: how you’ll do the work, your team and your timeline.
  • Financial proposal: your price, in the format and currency the notice asks for.
  • A bid security or bank guarantee, if the notice asks for one.

Ask questions in time

Most notices give a deadline and an address for questions. Ask early and in writing. Answers are usually shared with all bidders, so you can learn from other people’s questions too. Go to the pre-bid meeting if there is one.

Submit exactly as asked

  • Use the forms and envelope labels the notice gives; incomplete bids are often rejected without being read.
  • Keep technical and financial proposals separate if the notice says so.
  • Submit before the deadline. Late bids aren’t accepted, so aim to submit a day early.
  • Keep a copy and proof of submission.

Learn from past tenders
