How to spot a scam
Most adverts on JubaJobs are genuine. These are the warning signs we and our readers have seen most in the last 30 days.
Asking you to pay
A fee to apply, for “registration”, a medical, training, uniform or to “secure” a place. Genuine employers and scholarships never charge to apply or interview.
A job that doesn’t exist
Adverts copied from real organisations, or for roles nobody can confirm. Check the job on the organisation’s own website or call its office.
Too good to be true
A guaranteed job, no interview, very high pay for little work, or “you have been selected” for something you never applied to.
A personal email for a big name
A UN agency or international NGO asking you to apply to a Gmail or Yahoo address. They use their own email addresses.
What to do
- Never pay to apply, to be interviewed or to “process” anything.
- Don’t send your ID, bank details or mobile money PIN before you have a written offer you’ve checked.
- Check the job on the organisation’s own website or by calling its office.
- Report the advert on JubaJobs with “Report this advert”, so we can check it and warn others.
If you paid someone, keep the messages and receipts and report it to the police.
